This morning in the train station we saw missionaries. This is how the conversation went-
Katie: Are those missionaries?
Emma: I don't know.
Katie: I think those are missionaries!
Emma: Mmm...
Katie: Those have got to be missionaries! Look at them!
Emma: ......
Katie: Those are definitely missionaries. Hey missionaries!
At this point I started smiling and waving like some kind of crazy person and the missionaries were super confused until we yelled, "Hey, we're from Utah! We're Mormons!" Then they also smiled and waved and we chatted for a minute. And then we ate some fresh bread for breakfast.
Today is gonna be a good day.

Venice was incredible. It took us a day to warm up to it, but by our last night there we didn't want to leave! The main islands were, of course, charming and romantic just as you would expect. St. Mark's was crowded, but worth a visit and the Grand Canal was magical, especially at night. Our hotel on the island of Lido was wonderful- we were especially excited about the private bathroom!
Our favorite parts of Venice were the lagoon islands. Everyone has heard of the famous Murano blown glass, so we took a water bus out to see it for ourselves. The island itself was quiet and lovely and the canals were lined with shops full of hand-blown jewelry, dishes and more! It was so beautiful and amazing to see what a talented artist can do with simple glass.
We spent Wednesday afternoon on the island of Burano. All the houses painted in bright, cartoony colors and the crooked clock tower rising above them make the whole island look like something out of a storybook. The women of Burano have a tradition of lacemaking and the streets are filled with shops and stalls overflowing with delicate, hand-tatted lace. All the lacy tablecloths and doilies make it an old ladies' paradise, and the beautiful baby clothes are enough to make anyone baby hungry. Add to that the gorgeous weather and a scoop of gelato and I never wanted to leave!

For the past two days we've been in Rome doing as the Romans do! From what we can tell, that mostly means eating gelato for every meal, which is just fine by us! It was quite the journey to get here- train, bus, ferry, train, subway, taxi-and now here we are in our cozy little cabin just outside "The Eternal City." Rome is incredible! Around every corner is a beautiful old church or a sunny square with a fountain in the center and flower boxes in the windows. And always a gelato shop. I wish we had photos of all the incredible things we've seen- the Trevi Fountain, the Colosseum, the Spanish Steps- but sadly both our camera batteries died... Luckily we do have photos of everything we've eaten on this trip. We have our priorities straight :)
